Greeting Friends,

If I haven’t had a chance to meet you, my name is Ryan Place, I’m a member of the Central City Church Leadership Board and am serving as the chair for our Multiethnic/Anti-Racism team. I’m writing to you to invite you to be part of our Multiethnic IQ training that will move us closer to being a more diverse and inclusive ethnic Christ centered community. Leading us on this path toward racial reconciliation and justice is Robert Caldwell who is the CEO/Lead Trainer of Answer Poverty. I had the privilege of attending one of Robert’s trainings back in 2019 and it was an eye opening experience to say the least, I have described it to some as the history class I wish I’d had in school. Needless to say, I’m very excited to have Robert leading us on this journey.

What does being part of the Multiethnic IQ training look like? This is an 18-month journey and will require two meetings per month - one with our full group of about 12 people and one with a breakout group of 3-5 people. Each month we will focus on a different topic or aspect of racial/ethnic community building featuring discussions, readings, movies and community activities (when deemed safe). In addition to the two monthly meetings there will be 2-3 hours/month of homework. Meetings will be held over Zoom to start, based on the comfort level of the group members we will also look at having socially distanced in person meetings as well.

As we have seen over the past several months (and years), the battle for racial justice and equity is far from over. The vision for this group isn’t simply just to talk about issues but to create actionable change. As I think about the impact of this group, I’m reminded of a quote from Mother Teresa that says “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”. While this group (and our community) might be small, I believe that together we can create ripples of change that hopefully grow into waves.

If you have further questions please don’t hesitate to email myself (rplace311@gmail.com) or Joe (joe@centralcity.co).

In Christ,

Ryan Place
