Poetry & Music Night

Join us for a night of poetry and music. While our music spots are filled, we have a few open mic spots for poetry. You can sign up to read original poetry by going here: https://forms.gle/jMKKtueecPKe3Po36

Please only sign up if you are confident you can attend. There will also be a few slots left open for people to sign up at the door, but these will be first come, first serve.

This is a safe place for anyone to share honest poetry, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, religion, or physical and mental ability. We do ask that the poems be no more than PG-13, as we are encouraging young people to join us. This does not mean you have to avoid difficult topics, and all discussions related to mental health are welcome, but not required.

This event is brought to you by Central City Church’s Mental Health Fund. Central City Church is a church in the Grandview area, committed to inclusion, justice, and faith formation. Our Mental Health Fund helps provide financial assistance to people who want to start seeing a counselor/therapist, often providing small grants to cover the first couple sessions. If you would like to help other people connect to life-saving mental health services, you can do so here: https://centralcity.churchcenter.com/.../mental-health-fund.

Meet our Hosts
Avery Anderson is the team leader for our Mental Health Fund. Avery recently graduated from OSU with his PhD. While he’s not working on mental health research and advocacy for transgender and gender diverse youth, he enjoys reading, writing poetry, and appreciating others’ musical talents.

Joe Graves is the pastor of Central City Church and President of the Ohio Writers Association (OWA). Most weeks he’s busy writing sermons for church, but when he gets a chance, he loves to dabble in fiction, especially science fiction, and the occasional poem. We hosts a monthly feedback group for OWA.
