In the Fall of 2017, we hosted a week of service with 180 volunteers, 12 organizations, and 35 projects.
We hope to continue this work by hiring a summer intern to focus on community volunteer coordinator. This person can be a student, or anyone interested in summer employment. It will be 3/4 time - full time, for about 2-3 months, in the summer, depending on who is hired and what their summer plans are.
This individual will organize all of the volunteer projects for Central City’s local missions in Franklinton, including work with any of a number of organizations: Gladden Community House, Van Buren Shelter, Franklinton Gardens, Franklinton Board of Trade, Mount Carmel West, Mount Carmel College of Nursing, Women Crafting Change, The Homeless Families Foundation, and The Avondale Place.
We believe that the world is made better when people step out of their comfort zone and meet new people, especially people different from them.
Here are a few quotes from people who have volunteered with us already:
“We mainly served for the low income and homeless families and it was a first and amazing time for me. I learned that these families and most of the children are going through a lot and when one family member falls, the whole family falls. I used to look at people like this in a negative and sort of judgy way but this whole experienced changed that. I now see them as so much more. They’re everyday people, they’re humans like you and I and they deserve to be happy just like everybody else.”
“After I was done volunteering, I immediately called my mom to thank her for everything that she has done for me and everything that she has given to me. It was a life changing experience.”
“After worship, yesterday at Central City Church, our 6-year old Ryan showed this drawing to us that he created during church. It's a picture of him and Daniel giving out milk and ice to homeless residents at Van Buren Shelter at last week's Hello Neighbor week of service. We were speechless.”
