Support Yakubu’s Journey to Healing and Stability

Dear Friends,

Meet Yakubu, a courageous and resilient individual who has endured unimaginable hardship and is now striving for a new life of safety, dignity, and hope. Yakubu's story is one of survival, love, and perseverance, and we invite you to join us in supporting him as he begins to rebuild his life here in the United States.

Yakubu’s Story

Yakubu grew up in Ghana, where tragedy struck early in his life. After losing his father, he was placed under the care of his uncle, a man who saw him as little more than free labor. Denied the opportunity to attend school, Yakubu worked tirelessly until he could bear it no longer. At a young age, he ran away, only to find himself homeless.

Vulnerable and alone, Yakubu fell into the hands of a trafficker. Forced to sell drugs and himself to survive, he endured years of exploitation. By the age of 15, Yakubu escaped again. Deeply conflicted about his identity, he wrestled with the realization that he was gay—a reality that was not only stigmatized but criminalized in his homeland.

In an attempt to honor his late mother’s wishes, Yakubu entered into an arranged marriage. Together, he and his wife raised four beautiful children. Yet, despite his best efforts to conform, Yakubu could not deny his true self. He built a secret community of LGBTQ friends, where he could experience moments of joy and belonging.

Tragically, one of these gatherings was raided. Facing imminent danger due to his sexual orientation, Yakubu had no choice but to flee his country, leaving behind his family, friends, and everything he knew.

A New Chapter, A Long Journey Ahead

Yakubu is now in the United States, safe but carrying the heavy burden of his past. While he focuses on healing from trauma, he is also navigating the complex asylum process. Despite these challenges, Yakubu remains deeply committed to providing for his ex-wife and children back in Ghana, a responsibility he has carried for years. The debt he accumulated while supporting them is overwhelming, and starting over in a new country is daunting without help.

How You Can Help

Our church has come together to support Yakubu, and we’re inviting you to join us. With your generosity, we can help Yakubu cover his basic needs as he seeks employment, work toward paying off his debt, and begin to build a life where he can thrive.

Your donations will go toward:

  • Housing and living expenses while he finds stable employment.

  • Payments toward the debt he acquired providing for his family in Ghana.

  • Legal and administrative costs for the asylum process.

  • Counseling and resources to support his healing journey.

Let’s Show Yakubu He’s Not Alone

Yakubu has faced unimaginable adversity, yet he continues to hope and strive for a better future. Together, we can provide the support he needs to take the next steps on his journey. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

Thank you for standing with Yakubu and showing him that love and compassion know no borders.
